Greek Goddesses

CALYPSO - Goddess of the Hidden:

The Greek Goddess Calypso, was a creature called a nymph (a female spirit typically associated with a particular location or landform). She was daughter of the Titan Atlas (who is the man strong enough to hold up the sky) and lived on the island Ogygia. This is where Odysseus (from Homer's "The Odyssey") was washed ashore. Calypso then fell madly in love with Odysseus and offered him an eternal life to stay with her. He refused the offer because he had a good wife, Penelope, waiting for him back home. After seven years, Athena complained for Odysseus to Zeus, and Zeus then ordered Hermes to go to Calypso and demand that Odysseus be set free. And so she did so, reluctantly, helping him make a boat to sail off the island. Calypso's other names include: Hidden or Hider. Appropriate?

CIRCE - Goddess of Magic:

The Greek Goddess, Circe was the daughter of Hecate and Helios. She was the union of opposites. The sorcery bit goes hand in hand with the celestial powers. Her biggest part is also played in Homer's "The Odyssey" and she had her own island off of the coast of Italy where she liked to catch sailors and other random men and turn them into things (like pigs). She, like Calypso, was sad to see Odysseus leave after he stayed for seven long years, but she reluctantly let him go back to his wife, Penelope. Circe's other names include: Sorceress.

I think that if you look closely, the person who looks most like Calypso is Tyra Banks. She's got the wild hair, tan skin, and has all the boys. She's also as beautiful as Calypso was described.

They are my two favorite Goddesses because they are both most like me. Their significance to the world is that one is the Goddess of Hiding and the other is the Goddess of Magic so many myths have been created because of these two Goddesses.
